Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was on television in the role of Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in her role on the ABC comedy Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let her pursue acting before turning 18. Perry was shy in high-school and didn't act. Her first acting experience was in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends when she moved from Boston University. Perry went on to New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness led Perry back to California and theater roles were readily available. Perry performed with her mom as part of The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie with her in the year 2015. Perry appeared in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. Her father played her on the ABC Drama Scandal. She also played in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon which was a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The character was picked by auditions, even having a strong relationship with the show.
